Luncheon with the Mexican Ambassador – A Global Spanish Initiative Engagement
As part of the University of Virginia Center for Politics' Ambassador Series, the College of Arts & Sciences was proud to collaborate in hosting a luncheon honoring His Excellency Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States. The luncheon followed Ambassador Moctezuma’s public address, Global Perspectives on Democracy: The U.S.–Mexico Relationship—Past, Present, and Future, where he spoke on the evolving partnership between Mexico and the U.S., as well as key issues impacting the region.
The College’s private luncheon welcomed the Ambassador to Grounds and provided a platform to share the vision of the Global Spanish Initiative—a cross-disciplinary effort that highlights the cultural, artistic, and intellectual contributions of Spanish-speaking communities around the world. The event also underscored the College’s deep commitment to expanding faculty expertise in Spanish-language scholarship and global research. Through new faculty recruitment, support for original research conducted in Spanish, and increased investment in global collaborations, the College is actively working to position UVA as a national leader in Spanish-language academic inquiry.
This engagement fostered meaningful dialogue on shared values, cross-border collaboration, and the importance of linguistic and cultural fluency in addressing global challenges.
