Juntos Latin Alumni Global Spanish Event – Showcasing Scholarship, Culture & Community
As part of the University’s Juntos Latin Alumni Weekend, Dean Christa Acampora, in collaboration with UVA Lifetime Learning, hosted a special Global Spanish gathering at Newcomb Theater. Juntos, a biennial celebration of the Hispanic and Latinx UVA community, brings together alumni, students, faculty, and friends for a weekend of cultural celebration, academic insight, and meaningful connection (Learn more about Juntos here).

This event was designed to foster community through shared scholarship, storytelling, and cultural exchange, highlighting UVA’s deepening commitment to Spanish-language research and the broader Global Spanish Initiative.

Program highlights included:

Short Film introducing “what is Global Spanish” and academic profiles showcasing the vibrant research and creative work being done across the global Hispanophone.

Networking opportunities that brought alumni and faculty together to celebrate shared heritage and intellectual collaboration.

The program concluded with a coffeehouse-style reception, featuring espresso drinks, tea, and aguas frescas, with live guitar music by Berto and Vincent. Guests enjoyed local pastries from Cumbre Bakery and tapas-style bites in a warm, welcoming space designed to encourage casual conversation and connection.

Importantly, this event centered the participation of UVA’s Latin alumni, reflecting the College’s strong commitment to building lasting community ties and supporting alumni as essential partners in the University’s academic and cultural mission. It demonstrated how Global Spanish connects research, creativity, and community engagement.
